About the IHN
Welcome to the Indigenous Health Network website, a platform for the IHN to share information about their work dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Indigenous peoples. Our network exists to build connections between the healthcare systems and various Indigenous organizations, with the goal of ensuring that Indigenous peoples receive culturally safe, respectful, and effective healthcare services.
Through the formation of the IHN, many health service providers and Indigenous organizations have developed stronger partnerships with each other and with Ontario Health. Collectively, the IHN strengthens the voice of Indigenous communities and provides essential advice and direction on local health care priorities, planning and service delivery.
The IHN’s connection and engagement with local Indigenous community members across the Hamilton, Niagara, Haldimand, Norfolk, and Brant area brings forward diverse perspectives and experiences of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples living both on and off-reserve, and in urban and rural settings.
At the Indigenous Health Network, we understand that the health of Indigenous peoples is deeply connected to our cultural identity, history, and traditional practices. We also recognize that the healthcare system has often failed to address the unique needs and perspectives of Indigenous peoples, resulting in disparities in health outcomes and experiences. Therefore, our network strives to bridges these gaps, promote dialogue and understanding, and support the development of culturally appropriate healthcare practices.
Through partnerships with other Indigenous organizations and healthcare providers we aim to create a collaborative network that fosters shared learning, innovative solutions, and community-driven approaches to healthcare. We invite you to join us in our mission to build networks and connections that advance the health and well-being of Indigenous peoples and communities around the world.
